On March 31 2011, a large number of people accepted an
invitation from Masura Emoto to join in a focused
Prayer for the Water of Japan. The invitation was to "Please
join us ~ EVERY DAY at 12pm, noon ~ Your Local Time
A Global Event - Special Water Ceremony ~ For the Water
Please Read Dr Emoto's Daily Message and Specific Prayer To
The Water With Love and Gratitude."
The plan asked for people to engage this meditation each day
from March 31 to April
10, but the GCP event was set just for the 31st, as a sample
that could represent the long event.
Many people suggested this for a GCP analysis, and it is
somewhat similar to a number of other mass meditations we
have monitored. Since the expectation was for people to pray
or meditate at noon in their local time zone, it might be
appropriate to treat it by looking at the compounding of
effects close to noon calculated for each time zone. But for
simplicity, I set the hypothesis to assess the full 24 hour
day of the 31st. I hope later to have a chance to explore
the epoch version.
The result is Chisquare 86198.139 on 86400 df, for p = 0.686
and Z = -0.485.
It is important to keep in mind that we have only a tiny
statistical
effect, so that it is always hard to distinguish signal from
noise. This means that every "success" might be largely
driven by chance, and every "null" might include a real
signal overwhelmed by noise. In the long run, a real effect
can
be identified only by patiently accumulating replications of
similar analyses.
