Russian Bombing

On December 5 2003, a Russian commuter train was hit by suicide bombers. The time was apparently set for early morning, about 8 am, when the train would be full of people on their way to work. More than 40 people were killed and some 200 more were injured. The location was near Yessentuki, which is close to the Chechnyan border, and the suspicion was that this was an act in the ongoing troubles between Chechnya and Russia.

The period set for the GCP event was from an hour before to three hours after the bombing. The resulting graph has a striking, steady downward trend that approaches significance (in the direction opposite to the standard prediction). The trend is especially strong during a period of about two hours immediately after the bombing. Chisquare is 14175 on 14400 df, with p = 0.908.
